April events

April events

Welcome to all of our new members and welcome back to all those of you who have renewed your membership.

Spring has finally arrived and thankfully it's beginning to have an effect on the weather.
This April at the club, we've got some new events and the return of some old favourites too.

Before I go into detail about what's going on in April may I just take a moment to remind members that while children are welcome at the club they are not to approach or stand at the bar and neither are they to run around the club. If you want to bring young children into the club they are to be closely supervised at all times. Most of our members are not troubled by the noise that children make, but they are sometimes too slow to move out of the way of a child in full flight!
This is a matter of Health, Safety and Good manners and it applies equally to everyone.

We ease ourselves into April with the first of our Easy Listening Friday evenings, which is a chance to reflect on the week's events and chat with friends maybe with a little background music. On 6th April we're holding the first of our twice-monthly Open Mic Nights hosted by George Nix.
Margaret Wilmott hosts our monthly Bingo session on Friday 8th (Eyes Down at 7:30 pm).

On Saturday 9th we've got a real treat lined up with the first public appearance of The Jukes a four-piece rhythm & blues band brought together by Jeff Horsey with Gareth Hedges, George Nix and Colin Boyd. They're going to be playing some classic tunes from the movie 'The Blue Brothers' along with a few surprises. It's going to be Bluesy and Funky. Feel free to wear a fedora, dark glasses and shake a tail feather as the mood takes you.

Our ever-popular Monthly Quiz is going to be held on Tuesday 12th kicking off at 8 pm. Teams of six or fewer, please.

On Wednesday 13th the Tavy Tars will be holding the first of their two rehearsals beginning at 7:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Friday 15th (Good Friday) sees the return of Curry Night. As usual, numbers will be limited to around 40 people so keep your eye out on our website or on our Facebook page for when we're taking table bookings. All of our curries are freshly prepared in the British Indian Restaurant style and cooked by enthusiastic curry lovers!

On Wednesday 20th it's time for our second Open Mic Night of the month. The great thing about our Open Mic nights is that the acts differ for every event. Do try to come along and support our local talented musicians.
On Friday 22nd April the club is hosting a private Birthday Party.

The Tavy Tars return for the second of their rehearsal sessions on 27th April while on Saturday 30th we hosting John Chadwick who will be giving a presentation on his and Sue's return leg from Port Stanley to the UK. The talk entitled 'Falklands to Blighty' will begin at 8 pm. Grab a drink, pull up a chair and enthral at tales of daring-do.
....That's Not All
Every Monday evening there's Table Tennis from 7 pm. No need to book just turn up. All standards welcome. £2 per session.
Every Thursday from 4;30 pm there's a French-language class and that's followed by a Spanish language class at 5:45 pm. The cost is £5 for each class.
We also Open each Sunday lunchtime from 12 noon until 3:30 pm.

If you think that's a good month's entertainment wait until you see what we've got planned for May!!
